Visualizing one design...

In the first view, you're looking in the direction of the laundry room door. A shallow set of cabinets is set against the wall to extend the available storage space, while leaving an ample amount of space between it and the island.

A full height cabinet is set against the wall next to the refrigerator. In this mockup, I've chosen a side by side to prevent the doors from completely blocking the path into the laundry room.

The second view moves to the left, still facing the exterior wall, exposing the placement of the double oven in a set of full height cabinets, as well as the dishwasher next to the sink.

The gas range, barely visible on the island beneath the range hood, has five burners and sit directly across from the sink. This placement leaves the range off center in the island, maintaining a symmetry with the sink while leaving a larger prep area next to the range.
